(Sarah Turker\/UConn Health Center Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>University of Connecticut Health Center medical librarian Hongjie Wang has been awarded a <a href=\"http:\/\/fulbright.state.gov\">Fulbright Scholar grant<\/a> to lecture in China during the upcoming academic year.<\/p>\n<p>Wang will teach two graduate courses on medical information management at Sichuan University in Chengdu and conduct guest lectures at various institutions in China throughout his Fulbright Scholar tenure, which ends January 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was very excited to receive the grant because it\u2019s so competitive and at the same time it carries with it a lot of responsibility,\u201d says Wang.<\/p>\n<p>Wang, head of the <a href=\"http:\/\/library.uchc.edu\/\">Lyman Maynard Stowe Library\u2019s<\/a> Information and Education Services department, is one of approximately 1,100 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program in 2013-2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been working hard to get things in order because I will be teaching and also doing guest speaking engagements,\u201d explains Wang. \u00a0\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re supposed to give them about five topics to cover and then we\u2019ll travel around the country and deliver to the people interested in those topics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted that Hongjie has received this well-deserved Fulbright Scholar award,\u201d says Evelyn B. Morgen, director of the LM Stowe Library. \u201cIt is a great honor for our library as well as for the University of Connecticut Health Center.\u00a0 Hongjie is an excellent teacher and a talented librarian, and I know his knowledge, skill, and enthusiasm will be assets to Sichuan University.\u00a0We will miss him, but look forward to learning more about the role of academic libraries in China when he returns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields. The program operates in over 155 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe go there in the capacity of cultural ambassador,\u201d says Wang. \u201cWe let people know about our country, our people, our institutions, and that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to do. It is a great way to get UConn Health Center\u2019s name out there.
