Members of UConn\u2019s School of Engineering faculty met with regional business and corporate representatives Nov. 1 to discuss potential academic\/industry partnerships as part of the UConn School of Engineering\u2019s first annual Engineering-Industry Open House.<\/p>\n

The half-day event featured an informal networking forum, during which visitors had the opportunity to speak with faculty members and to view posters highlighting commercially promising research underway at UConn.<\/p>\n

More than 60 researchers representing such areas as biomedical engineering, high performance computing, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, energy, environment, materials science, and nanotechnology participated in the event, which drew more than 200 attendees. The event took place in the Lewis B. Rome Ballroom.<\/p>\n

\u201cUConn engineering faculty are constantly inventing new technologies that help companies improve or expand their product lines, streamline processes, and launch new frontiers,\u201d said Kazem Kazerounian, interim dean of UConn\u2019s School of Engineering. \u201cWe sponsored this open house as a way for industry to meet our faculty, hear about what they are doing, and explore new avenues for collaboration that will help their businesses innovate, improve, reduce costs, and flourish.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event was co-sponsored by Connecticut Innovations, UConn\u2019s Institute of Materials Science, UConn\u2019s Office of the Vice President for Economic Development, and the UConn Office of the Vice President for Research.<\/p>\n
