Legislative leaders took a bus tour of the Health Center campus to see the progress of the Bioscience Connecticut construction projects: Susan Keane, Appropriations Committee administrator (front), Sen. Several state legislative leaders came to the Health Center Friday, Jan. 17, to hear and see first-hand the progress of Bioscience Connecticut. The co-chairs of the Appropriations Committee, Sen. Beth Bye (D-Farmington, Bloomfield, West Hartford, Burlington) and Rep. Toni Walker (D-New Haven), along with Deputy House Republican Leader at Large, Rep. Pam Sawyer ( R-Andover, Bolton, Hebron, Marlborough) spent several hours on the Farmington campus hearing from Health Center leaders and researchers.<\/p>\n

Dr. Frank Torti, executive vice president for health affairs and medical school dean, gave an overview of the initiative saying the various programs and construction projects were on-track and on-budget. Dr. Annabelle Rodriguez, professor of cell biology and the Linda and David Roth Chair of Cardiovascular Research, talked about the future of personalized medicine and her research into the link between heart disease and female infertility.<\/p>\n

The leaders then toured the research lab of Dr. Pramod Srivastava, professor of immunology and medicine and director of the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he discussed his work on a vaccine for ovarian cancer.<\/p>\n

Tom Trutter, associate vice president of campus planning, design and construction, led the group on a bus tour of the Health Center campus showcasing the progress of the Bioscience Connecticut construction projects.<\/p>\n
