School of Business<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The School of Business<\/b>\u00a0was ranked 23rd among\u00a0Best Online Graduate Business Programs in 2014<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0U.S. News & World Report<\/i>. The MS in Accounting (MSA) program ranked 3rd. The MS in Business Analytics & Project Management (MSBAPM) was ranked #34 in the recently released\u00a0Eduniversal Best Masters Ranking in Engineering and Project Management<\/a>\u00a0for 2013-2014.<\/p>\n

\"isr\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Xinxin Li,<\/b>\u00a0associate professor of OPIM and Ackerman Scholar, was one of only two recipients of the Best Reviewer Award for 2013 from\u00a0Information Systems Research<\/a>\u00a0(ISR).<\/p>\n

Neag School of Education<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Suzanne Wilson,\u00a0<\/b>professor of curriculum and instruction, was elected as a new member to the\u00a0National Academy of Education<\/a>\u00a0(NAE). The current members of this prestigious organization are the preeminent research scholars in the field of education. She was also commissioned by NAE to write a paper on “Recent Developments in STEM Education Relevant to the Qualities of Teacher Preparation Programs.”<\/p>\n

School of Engineering<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

\"IEEE<\/a><\/div>\n

Robert X. Gao,<\/b>\u00a0Pratt & Whitney Chair of Mechanical Engineering,<\/b>will receive the\u00a0IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Society 2013 Technical Award<\/a>\u00a0for significantly advancing the state of the art in electrical capacitance tomography instrument design.<\/p>\n

Peter Willett,<\/b>\u00a0professor of electrical & computer engineering, is now Editor-In-Chief of\u00a0IEEE\u00a0Signal Processing Letters<\/i><\/a>.\u00a0SP Letters<\/i>\u00a0receives approximately 1,700 submissions a year and accepts between 15 percent and 20 percent.<\/p>\n

School of Fine Arts<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Scott Ripley,<\/b>\u00a0associate professor of dramatic arts, received funding through the UConn Guest Professorship Program to bring international artist\u00a0Carlos Garc\u00eda Est\u00e9vez<\/a>\u00a0to campus. Est\u00e9vez is an actor, stage director, theater researcher, and pedagogue. Artistic director of Manifesto Poetico (International Laboratory of Theatre Research), Est\u00e9vez founded and created the international theatre company Teatro Punto (1998-2013). Since 2012, he has been a guest teacher at the\u00a0Laboratoire d’Etude de Mouvement\u00a0in Paris.<\/p>\n

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Physics professor\u00a0Nora Berrah<\/b>\u00a0published an article on \u201cThe Ultimate X-ray Machine,\u201d in\u00a0Scientific American\u00a0<\/i>(\u201cSuperpowerful X-Ray Laser Boils Atoms in Molecules, Nanosystems and Solids, Explodes Proteins \u2013 All in the Name of Science<\/a>,\u201d by\u00a0Nora Berrah and Philip H. Bucksbaum,\u00a0Scientific American<\/i>, January 2014, Vol. 310, Issue 1).<\/i><\/p>\n

Alexander Jackson,<\/b>\u00a0assistant professor of physiology and neurobiology, has been awarded $250,000 from the\u00a0U.S. Public Health Service<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0National Institute of Mental Health<\/a>\u00a0for his study on how the nervous system and hypothalamus control vigilance and cognitive function.<\/p>\n

University Libraries<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

\"NEURISA\"<\/a><\/div>\n

University librarian\u00a0Michael Howser\u00a0<\/b>was awarded the\u00a0New England Chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association’s<\/a>\u00a0(NEURISA) Special Achievement Award. The award is given to an individual who has made a significant contribution that greatly enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of an organization through the use of geospatial or other information technologies. He was given the award for his work in transforming UConn’s\u00a0Map and Geographic Information Center<\/a>\u00a0(MAGIC) over the past five years, as well as his role in establishing the\u00a0Connecticut State Data Center<\/a>, a collaboration of academic and state organizations that serve as a liaison to the U.S. Census.<\/p>\n

School of Nursing<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

\"NANN\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Jacqueline McGrath,\u00a0<\/b>professor of nursing, has been appointed as the new co-editor of\u00a0Advances in Neonatal Care<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(ANC), the official journal of the\u00a0National Association of Neonatal Nurses<\/a>. McGrath is the associate dean for research and scholarship in the School of Nursing, as well as the director of nursing research at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. McGrath has served on ANC’s Editorial Board since 2000, and has been editor of the Evidence-Based Practice Briefs Section since 2010. She was also the guest editor for ANC’s Developmental Care Supplement in 2012.<\/p>\n

Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Nursing\u00a0Cheryl Beck<\/b>‘s textbook was awarded third place in the nursing research category for 2013 AJN Book of the Year Awards:\u00a0Essentials of Nursing Research: Appraising Evidence for Nursing Practice<\/a>,<\/i>\u00a0by Denise F. Polit and Cheryl Tatano Beck (8th edition, 2013, Wolters Kluwer Health\/Lippincott Williams and Wilkins).<\/p>\n

Institute for Student Success<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Due to the successful track record of the\u00a0Student Support Services<\/a>\u00a0(SSS) program, the Connecticut Office of Higher Education doubled the Center for Academic Programs\u2019 previous grant award through the Connecticut College Access and Success program: a $200,000 award was received to provide support for 50 incoming students through the SSS program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
