Photo supplied by the Division of Athletics<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was announced Tuesday that University of Connecticut men&#8217;s basketball coach Jim Calhoun will take a medical leave of absence from his head coach position, effective immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is my recommendation that Coach Calhoun take a medical leave from his coaching position to address some temporary medical issues, none of which involve any previous medical conditions that he has dealt with,\u201d said UConn Health Center physician Peter Schuman, MD, Calhoun\u2019s primary care doctor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur primary concern is Coach Calhoun\u2019s health and his complete recovery,\u201d said Jeffrey Hathaway, UConn\u2019s director of athletics. \u201cWe will do everything possible to support Coach during this time.
