Some Campus Roads to Close Temporarily Today for Snow Removal

The snowiest January since record-keeping began has caused traffic, parking headaches on campus.

Several roads on the Storrs campus will be temporarily closed for hours at a time beginning Friday, Jan. 28, so that UConn Facilities crews can work to remove the massive piles of snow that have built up this winter. The snow mounds, some several feet high, are crowding roads, parking lots, and sidewalks to such a degree that it is interfering with parking and traffic. Between now and roughly 10 p.m. today, the following roads will be closed – one at a time – for a few hours to allow the snow to be collected and hauled away: Glenbrook, Gilbert, Mansfield, Bolton, Alumni, Stadium, Hillside, and Whitney. Other roads around campus may be closed as well. The length of time a road is closed depends on how long the road is and how much snow has accumulated. Facilities personnel urge the campus community to be patient as the crews do their work.
