Students, Could You Please Move Your Cars?

The University asks resident students with cars to vacate parking lots on Feb. 12 for snow clearing.

If you’re a student parked in a resident lot, it will not come as a surprise to you that the lots are sort of a mess because of the built-up snow this year. The fact that cars are always parked in student lots during and after snow storms has made clearing them a tough task for UConn’s Facilities department; some spaces are cleared, some aren’t, and others have cars in them that don’t look like they’ve moved at all in two weeks. Because of this, space is more limited, lanes are too narrow, cars are getting stuck – again, nothing you don’t already know.

So the University is asking that students in residential lots – including Hilltop and Charter Oak Apartments/Busby Suites, but excluding Mansfield and Northwood Apartments – to move their cars out before 7 a.m. this Saturday, Feb. 12 (hint: maybe just move them Friday night), so the Facilities folks have the chance to do their thing.

Here are the details in a message from Martha Funderburk of Parking Services:

Parking Services is working with Facilities Operations to clear as much snow as possible from student resident lots on Saturday, February 12, 2011. In order for this effort to be successful, we need everyone who parks in a resident lot to move their vehicle out of the lot by 7 a.m. on Saturday morning.

You can move your vehicle to any employee lot, student commuter lot (EXCEPT W), C Lot, or the North Garage. The gates will be up and parking will be free at the North Garage from 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning until 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. If you leave the garage after 4 p.m. on Saturday, you will be charged the daily rate.

Please move your vehicle and encourage everyone you know living on campus to move their vehicle so that snow can be plowed and removed. Random cars left in a lot make it impossible to effectively clear the snow.
