UConn Police Investigating Fatal Accident on Campus

A candlelight vigil is set for 8 p.m. tonight at ‘the rock’ near the North Parking Garage.

UConn Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. on March 22, in which a UConn shuttle bus struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Hillside Road and Alumni Drive on the Storrs campus. The victim has been identified as a UConn student, David N. Plamondon, 20, of Westminster, Mass.

UConn police, fire, and paramedics responded, and UConn police detectives, assisted by the Connecticut State Police, processed the scene of the accident.

The investigation is continuing. The UConn police ask that anyone who witnessed the accident who has not already been interviewed by police call 860-486-4800.

“David’s death is a very painful tragedy,” said UConn’s vice president for student affairs, John Saddlemire, “not only for his family and friends but for the entire university community.”

“David was a physiology and neurobiology major and wanted to become a doctor,” Saddlemire wrote in a e-mail message sent campus-wide. “He founded a charitable group called Silver Wings, which focused on raising money for various causes. David’s friends describe him as a great and fun-loving person, full of crazy ideas, free spirit, and always willing to help others. In addition to David’s various involvements on campus, he was a member of ‘A Minor’ [a student a cappella group] and worked closely with the Community Outreach Office.”

A candlelight vigil will be held in honor of Plamondon on Thursday, March 24, at 8 p.m., at “the rock” (across from the North Parking Garage, near the Foundation Building). Mental Health Services will be available for any students wanting to talk. For more information about the vigil, contact the Asian American Cultural Center, 860-486-0830.

In addition, there will be a concert at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, March 25, at 7 p.m.
