UConn Police Make Arrest in Greater Hartford Campus Bomb Threats

Threats on April 20 caused the campus to be evacuated and classes canceled.

University of Connecticut police have arrested a 19-year-old Bristol man in connection with bomb threats made against UConn’s Greater Hartford campus on April 20. Komail Hasan, a UConn student, was taken into custody on Thursday evening, April 21, by UConn police at his home in Bristol. Police traced two e-mailed threats authored by Hasan that were sent through a service provider in the Czech Republic to officials at the Greater Hartford campus.

Computer equipment and household items known to be used to fabricate explosive devices were also seized by police through a search warrant.

The threats caused the campus to be evacuated for several hours and classes were canceled. The campus was searched and no explosive devices were found.

Hasan has been charged with two counts of each of the following:

  • Falsely reporting an incident
  • Breach of Peace in the 2nd degree
  • Threatening in the 1st degree
  • Harassment in the 2nd degree
  • Act of Terrorism
  • Criminal Impersonation
  • Coercion

Hasan is scheduled to be presented at Hartford Superior Court on April 25.
