The man who fabricated a report of an armed robbery in the Torrey Life Sciences Building on Sept. 21 was arrested by UConn Police on Oct. 7 and charged with falsely reporting an incident, breach of peace, and misuse of the emergency 911 system.

Zohaib Ikram of Danbury called 911 at 10:15 p.m. on Sept. 21 and said he was working in a lab when someone entered holding a gun and demanded money.

“During the investigation, discrepancies in the details provided by the caller were revealed,” said Capt. Hans Rhynhart of the UConn Police in a press release. “In an attempt to generate a composite image of the robber, Ikram was not able to provide information to investigators to create the composite. Ikram eventually admitted to investigators the robbery did not occur and the incident was fabricated for personal reasons.”

Ikram surrendered himself to UConn Police on Friday after learning there was a warrant for his arrest.
