Doctors’ Day Awards 2012

To mark the occasion, the Health Center is honoring one physician and one dentist with the annual Richard A. Garibaldi, M.D., Doctors’ Day Award.

In gratitude for the hard work and professionalism of our physicians and dentists, the Health Center will once again celebrate National Doctors’ Day on March 30.

To mark the occasion, the Health Center will honor one physician and one dentist with the annual Richard A. Garibaldi, M.D., Doctors’ Day Award.

The awards are given to those who exemplify dedication to excellence in all facets of clinical care and their commitment to collaboration across disciplines – characteristics that came naturally to the late Dr. Garibaldi.

Dr. Michael Aronow

This year’s honorees are Dr. Michael Aronow, associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Dr. John Agar, professor in the Department of Reconstructive Sciences and director of the prosthodontic residency program.

The nominations came from clinicians, nurses and other professional staff who work closely with the doctors.

In the nominating letters, Aronow was recognized for his “absolute dedication to the highest standards of patient care, his endless energy, and recognized extraordinary clinical and surgical skill. He has made significant leadership contributions at the institutional, state and national level.”

Aronow was also cited for his exemplary teaching skills. “Dr. Aronow’s greatest dedication has been with each of the orthopaedic residents that have passed through our program. He offers his skills and knowledge regarding foot and ankle orthopaedic surgery through countless didactic lectures and teaching continuity of care from the initial welcoming visit through pre-op/post-op time with patients. However, there is much, much more that Michael Aronow offers residents through his meek and unassuming demeanor and that is that he is the consummate mentor.”

Agar was also recognized for his academic and clinical leadership skills: “Dr. Agar’s care for his residents extends well after the residency. He selflessly works towards creating opportunities to help the professional growth of his graduates. Several of his former residents have chosen an academic career due to his efforts.”

“Dr. Agar’s compassion, concern and commitment to providing patients with the highest quality of care are exceptional. Many of our patients have extensive needs due to years of dental neglect, systemic disease or injury. Dr. Agar is one of the most caring and humane people we have ever met.”

Aronow and Agar will receive their awards during a special breakfast celebration on Wednesday, March 28, from 6:30 to 8 a.m. in the Onyiuke Dining Room. The award winners will be honored at approximately 7:30 a.m.
