Convocation Marks a New Beginning for the Class of ’16
The Class of 2016 was officially welcomed to UConn during Convocation ceremonies held on Friday.
On a day that is filled with excitement, laughter, and no small amount of trepidation on the part of incoming students and their parents, there is something both reassuring and inspiring about the gathering that is called Convocation. Held on Friday, Aug. 24 at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion, this signature event marked the official welcome to UConn for first-year students, their parents, and family members.
Convocation is the only time prior to graduation that the entire entering undergraduate class gathers as one. It provides time for everyone – students, family members, faculty, and staff – to meet one another, formulate plans for the future, and to think about the collective goals and ideals that define a great University.
Following the ceremony, the Husky WOW! barbeque gave everyone a chance to celebrate the change that was about to begin, for new classmates to find connections, and for families to say good bye (for now) to the members of the Class of ’16.
