MSE Alumnus Dr. Dharma Maddala has recently been named a recipient of the ASM Emerging Professional Achievement Award. Dr. Maddala received his Ph.D. from UConn MSE in 2011.

His dissertation research focused on the wear behavior of metallic glasses, and his knowledge of metallurgy led him to a senior scientist position in the engineered surfaces group at ALCOA’s Technology Center in New Kensington, PA. Earlier this year, Dr. Maddala was promoted to staff surface scientist. In addition to his materials work, he also serves as the chair of the ASM Pittsburgh Chapter, a chapter of the world’s largest association of metals-centric materials scientists and engineers.

The ASM Emerging Professional Achievement Award recognizes outstanding young ASM members who have made significant contributions to ASM International through dedicated service to the organization.
