The 2016 CAHNR Graduate Research Forum will be held Saturday, March 5, at Oak Hall on the Storrs Campus. The annual event provides graduate students an opportunity to present their research.
“When we talk to potential employers—whether they be academia or industry—we are told that students have really good disciplinary grounding in their subject area, but their ability to communicate is one area that needs improvement,” says Associate Dean Cameron Faustman. “This is a great opportunity for grad students to practice and receive feedback, as well as become familiar with research going on in other departments within the College.”
The forum, created under Dean Kirklyn Kerr, was originally held in the Young Building. Faustman and Lynn Grabowski, administration services specialist, started overseeing the forum in 2011. Their goal was to expand the program, beginning with a larger venue that could house a greater number of poster and oral presentation sessions, as well as a keynote speaker and professional development activities.
The event was also scheduled for a Saturday, rather than a weekday, so that more students could attend. Last year the event drew more than one hundred-fifty students and faculty.
