UConn Extends Union Contracts

Existing contracts with UCPEA and AAUP will continue for up to a year, or until new agreements are reached.

The Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday to extend the existing labor agreements with the University’s faculty and staff unions when the current agreements expire today.

The collective bargaining agreements between the University and the Professional Employees Association (UCPEA) and American Association of University Professors (AAUP) expire at the end of the fiscal year, and successor agreements have not yet been reached.

UConn’s goal was to reach agreements prior to June 30, and the administration has been working with state government leaders toward that end since the UCPEA contract was rejected several months ago.

The contract extension agreement will continue existing terms of employment for one year, through June 2017, or until new agreements are reached. That includes the extension of all current base salaries, funding for professional development, and tuition reimbursement.

Faculty and staff union members comprise 92 percent of UConn’s workforce.
