In Memoriam

Beverly Ann Hamel, 91, of Greenville, R.I., who worked in the purchasing and accounting departments for 20 years before retiring in 1989, on Nov. 14.

Claire O’Neil, 98, of West Hartford, Conn., who was the former assistant hospital director for nursing at UConn Health, on Nov. 6.

Teri Syslo, 77, of Mathews County, Va., who was the former operating room supervisor at John Dempsey Hospital, on Nov. 10.

John Vlandis, 89, of Tallahassee, Fla., who was long-time Director of Admissions and Orientation Services and also a professor of communication sciences (photo on front page). He served as the president of the National Association of College Admissions Counselors. His family was profiled in 2013 as “The Biggest UConn Family.”

Jeanne Young, 90, of Willimantic, Conn., who retired from UConn in 1988 after 32 years of service, on Nov. 15.
