Student name and year at UConn:
Graduate student Shipra Malik
Recent accolade:
Shipra Malik was selected for an oral presentation and a cash prize for the prestigious 2021 RNA Institute Mini-Symposium series. Only nine graduate/postdoctoral students are selected annually to present in this series. The symposium took place virtually on March 3rd.
Research focus:
Shipra’s research focuses on the interface of chemical biology of nucleic acids and novel delivery platforms for the treatment of cancer and genetic disorders. Recently Shipra and her team established that targeting the seed region of microRNA-155, which is upregulated in lymphoma, can efficiently inhibit tumor growth in a xenograft mouse model. She presented these findings at the RNA Institute Mini-Symposium.
Faculty mentor and quote: Dr. Raman Bahal, Shipra’s faculty mentor, was excited to share that Shipra “presented her award-winning research at the Symposium which featured Noble Laureate, Dr. Michael Rosbash”.
