The UConn School of Pharmacy is proud to highlight two pharmacy students, Selena Zhuo and Janette Wadolowski, on their national roles in the American Pharmacist Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP). The APhA-ASP is the largest association of pharmacy students in the United States, representing more than 30,000 student pharmacists in colleges and schools of pharmacy across the country.

Selena Zhuo has been elected as the National Project Coordinator for the American Pharmacist Associations Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP’s) International Standing Committee for the 2023-2024 term. The International Standing Committee is responsible for promoting international exchange programs, fostering relationships with pharmacy students and organizations worldwide, and promoting global health initiatives.

In her new position, Zhuo will be responsible for coordinating international projects and activities for the APhA-ASP, promoting cross-cultural understanding and collaboration among pharmacy students around the world. As a first-generation immigrant fluent in both English and Mandarin, Zhuo has a passion for serving her community and is committed to fostering collaborations on a national and global scale through clinics, fundraisers, international programs, and study abroad programs. Zhuo’s vision is to empower pharmacy students to take an active role in shaping the future of pharmacy practice and promoting health equity.

Janette Wadolowski has also taken on a significant role in APhA-ASP as the Midyear Regional Meeting Coordinator (MRMC) for Region 1, which includes Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. As Coordinator, Wadolowski leads communication efforts, guides leadership among pharmacy school chapters in the region, tracks chapters’ progress and involvement, and creates monthly social media reports to highlight chapters’ events and activities.

In addition to planning and hosting APhA-ASP’s annual Midyear Regional Meeting, Wadolowski represented the Region at APhA annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. There she served as a Delegate on the Reference Committee that reviews proposed resolutions discussed during the APhA-ASP House of Delegates. Wadolowski and her team determine whether to amend, reject, or refer the resolutions for House votes.

Selena Zhuo and Janette Wadolowski’s roles as national leaders in APhA-ASP are truly commendable and a testament to their dedication and passion for the pharmacy profession and are a testament to the excellence of UConn students.
