Achievement

Dr. Lauren Geaney, a foot and ankle surgeon at UConn Health, is now part of the leadership group of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS). She is an associate professor of orthopedic surgery and associate director of the UConn Orthopaedic Residency Program. She is now among the 11 physicians who make up the AOFAS Board of Directors. Her involvement with the AOFAS, a national organization with a vision of leading the global community in foot and ankle education, research, innovation, and advocacy, goes back to 2010, when she was a trainee in the residency program she now helps lead. She since has served on several AOFAS boards and committees.

Dr. Jaclyn Olsen Jaeger, associate professor in the School of Medicine and geriatrician in the UConn Center on Aging, was awarded the Early Career Physician Teaching Award for her outstanding work as an educator of medical students and internal medicine residents by the Connecticut Chapter of the American College of Physicians. The award honors physicians at the associate professor level or below, who have shown outstanding commitment to medical education. Honorees must be active members of the chapter and stand out as educators of medical students or internal medicine residents.

Leon Bailey, of Storrs, Conn., an emeritus professor in fine arts and emeritus associate provost, on Oct. 11.

Peter Halvorson, 85, of Coventry, Conn., a professor emeritus in the department of geography and the founder of the Urban Studies Program, on Oct. 11.

Nancy Hursey, 78, of West Hartford, Conn, a former nurse at UConn Health, on Oct. 12.

Corina Morris, 51, of Manchester, Conn., an academic advisor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, on Oct. 12.

Dorothy Powell, 81, of Windsor, Conn., a retired employee of the Office of the Registrar, on Oct. 6.

Edward Thompson, 78, of East Hampton, Conn., a former firefighter at UConn Storrs, on Oct. 21.
