Today, in honor of Thank a Resident Day, the UConn Health community celebrates and expresses gratitude to the medical and dental residents whose hard work and pursuit of advanced training make a big impact in our community.
UConn Health currently trains over 850 medical residents and fellows in over 85 advanced graduate medical education programs, and over 110 dental residents in eight different advanced dental programs.
“UConn Health sponsored residency and fellowship training programs are a major supplier of physicians and dentists for the state of Connecticut,” says Dr. Scott Allen, Chief Medical Officer and patient safety officer at UConn Health. “Through our consortium hospitals, the residents and fellows help take care of the vast majority of hospitalized patients in the Hartford region. They are, therefore, a critical part of the region’s health care workforce and are significant contributors to UConn Health’s excellence in quality, patient safety, and the patient experience. We truly value their commitment to service and thank them for being a part of UConn Health.”
“Thank a Resident Day is an opportunity for us to collectively express our deep gratitude and sincere appreciation for the outstanding dedication and hard work of our dental residents and fellows,” said Dr. Steven Lepowsky, dean of the School of Dental Medicine. “Their commitment to learning and providing excellent patient care is simply inspiring.”
“UConn School of Medicine is so proud of our large teams of residents and fellows training to be the next generation of health care experts across our robust and ever-growing, nationally renowned physician and surgeon training programs,” says Dr. Bruce T. Liang, dean of the School of Medicine. “We thank all SOM-sponsored residents and fellows for sharing their skills and compassionate care on all patients across our partnering hospitals in the state, and for strengthening the health of Connecticut.”
The School of Medicine’s Graduate Medical Education program, led by Dr. Kiki Nissen and Dr. Steven Angus, is among the largest sponsors of residency programs in the nation ranking in the top 10 percent in size for the country.
