Appointments and Awards

Sean Jeffery, professor of pharmacy practice in School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been appointed to a three-year term by the American Board of Internal Medicine Council to the Geriatric Medicine Board. Among other roles, this specialty board defines and refines standards for certification and maintenance of certification in the discipline.

Chang Liu, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, has received a prestigious Faculty Early Career Development Award from the National Science Foundation, the agency’s highest honor supporting early-career faculty who demonstrate exceptional potential as both researchers and educators. The award recognizes Liu’s innovative work at the intersection of fluid dynamics, nonlinear systems, and control theory while supporting a research and education program that could improve the performance and efficiency of technologies ranging from aircraft to data centers.

In Memoriam

William Aho, 108, of Mansfield, Conn., emeritus professor of poultry science, on July 19. He had a long career at UConn as extension leader for the poultry science department and was the oldest UConn retiree at the time of his death.

Dorothy Bachiocchi, 94, of Jefferson, N.C., a former employee who retired in 1989, on April 15.

Dorothy Boisvert, 92, of Eastford, Conn., a retired employee, on July 7.

Alan Brush, 91, of Stonington, Conn., a professor emeritus of physiology and neurobiology, on July 12. He was an evolutionary biologist who specialized in feather proteins and taught for 30 years.

Donna Steffen, 83, of Glastonbury, Conn., a former nurse at UConn Health, on July 6.
