School of Business Welcomes New Faculty

An OPIM professor with a near-perfect student rating, an expert in entrepreneurship and startups, an MSA graduate who wants to help lead the program she loves, and a management professor who specializes in international business growth are among 14 new faculty members joining the School of Business for the Fall 2016 semester.

14 Professors Added to Ranks

An OPIM professor with a near-perfect student rating, an expert in entrepreneurship and startups, an MSA graduate who wants to help lead the program she loves, and a management professor who specializes in international business growth are among 14 new faculty members joining the School of Business for the Fall 2016 semester.

Our new faculty include:

Thomas D. Adams III (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)

Thomas D. Adams III, assistant professor of accounting, joins UConn after earning his Ph.D. in accounting at Temple University in 2016. At Temple, he received many awards, including the Award for Excellence in Doctoral Teaching. He is also a CPA and CGMA, and a SAS-Certified Advanced Programmer.

Adams has worked as a senior financial analyst for Teleflex Inc. in Limerick, Penn., reporting to the vice president of investor relations. Prior to that, he worked as a senior associate at KPMG in Philadelphia.

Adams also earned dual bachelors’ degrees in accounting and finance from La Salle University. His research interests include: audit quality, corporate governance, internal control and financial reporting quality.

 

Hang Bai (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)
 

Hang Bai, assistant professor in finance, joins UConn from The Ohio State University, where he earned a Ph.D. in finance in 2016. His research interests include asset pricing, credit risk, macro finance, finance intermediation and international finance.

In addition to his doctorate, Bai has a master’s degree in business administration from Duke University and master’s in engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He is fluent in English and Mandarin.

 

Anna Bergman Brown (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)

Anna Bergman Brown, assistant professor of accounting, joins UConn from Utah State University.

Brown earned her Ph.D. from Baruch College, City University of New York, in 2014. Her dissertation focused on how differences in accounting standards across countries affect the way banks write debt contracts. Her research on the subject appeared in the June 2016 issue of the Journal of Accounting Research. Brown also earned an MBA from Baruch, as well as a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University.

Her research interests include international accounting standards, debt contracting and corporate governance. She also speaks French, Portuguese and Spanish.

 

Paul Gilson (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)

Paul Gilson, assistant professor-in-residence in finance, returns to UConn after serving as a faculty member in the department of business administration at Eastern Connecticut State University, where he taught entrepreneurship. Gilson had previously taught at UConn from 2000 to 2010. He has worked for many different companies from large multi-national businesses to small high-tech startups.

He began his career as an accountant with KPMG Peat Marwick in both Atlanta and London. Later, Gilson became the CFO and EVP of strategic development of the Maxim Group in Atlanta, specializing in IPOs and mergers and acquisitions. More recently, Gilson has helped numerous startups prepare business plans and fundraising activities. Gilson earned his Ph.D. from Georgia Tech.

Gilson’s research interests include the application of game theoretic models to the relationship between entrepreneurs and the institutions that finance startups. He has also co-authored a paper and book chapters on teams, creativity and entrepreneurship.

 

Shu He (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)
 

Shu He, assistant professor of OPIM, joins UConn after earning a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016. She also has a master’s degree in economics from Texas, as well as bachelors’ degrees in economics and applied mathematics from Peking University in China. She serves as a reviewer for several prominent scholarly journals. Her research interests include social media, mobile ecosystems, information security and online advertising.

 

Shun-Yang Lee (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)

Shun-Yang Lee, assistant professor in OPIM, comes to UConn from the University of Texas at Austin, where he received a Ph.D. in information systems in 2016. While at UT, he earned near-perfect ratings from students and was selected to the Faculty Honor Roll.

Lee also earned a master’s degree in information, risk and operations management from the University of Texas at Austin and two bachelor’s degrees, in mathematics and piano performance, from Bard College. He is fluent in English and Mandarin.

His research interests include business analytics, digital marketing, social media advertising and sentiment manipulation in online platforms.

 

Ricki W. Livingston (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)

Ricki W. Livingston joins UConn as the director of online programs in accounting and an instructor-in-residence. Her responsibilities will include managing the operation and development of the department’s online programs, in conjunction with the department head, to ensure the quality and growth of the program. U.S. News has ranked UConn’s MSA program No. 2 in the nation among online master degrees, non-MBA programs.

Livingston earned her MSA from UConn in 2014 and was a student inductee in the School’s Hall of Fame. She also has both a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA from Berry College in Georgia. She has been an instructor in UConn’s online accounting and fine arts programs since 2014. Livingston’s research interests include student-centered strategies in online education and financial accounting.

 

Thaddeus Neururer (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)

Thaddeus Neururer, visiting assistant professor in accounting, joins UConn after completing a Ph.D. in management, with a concentration in accounting and a minor in financial economics, from Boston University in 2016. He also earned an MBA, with concentrations in accounting and analytical finance, from the University of Chicago, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

His professional experience includes working as a senior quantitative analyst at Black Edge Capital and director of risk management at Infinium Capital Management, both in Chicago.

While at BU, he won several awards for his research. His current work focuses on empirical analysis of accounting’s role in the capital markets with an emphasis on the market attribute of uncertainty.

 

Jing Peng (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)

Jing Peng, assistant professor of OPIM, joins UConn after earning a Ph.D. in operations, information and decisions from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2016.

He also has a master of engineering degree in computer applied technology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing and a bachelor’s degree in applied physics from Xi-an Jiaotong University in China. He is a reviewer for several academic journals.

His research interests include social media marketing, statistical methodology and data mining.

 

Joshua Racca (UConn School of Business)

Joshua C. Racca, assistant professor-in-residence in accounting, comes to UConn from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he has been on the faculty since 2011. There, Racca developed three online courses for an award-winning online accounting program.

Racca earned a Ph.D. in accounting in 2011 and an MBA in 2005, both from the University of North Texas. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Texas A&M and is a CPA.

In addition to his academic experience, Racca has operated his own tax consultancy business and worked as a project manager and financial analyst for Bank of America. His research interests include: capital markets, tax, disclosure, and education.

 

Jaideep Shenoy (UConn School of Business)

Jaideep Shenoy, assistant professor in finance, joins UConn from Tulane University, where he has been a finance faculty member since 2009. His work has appeared in the Journal of Financial Economics, Management Science and is forthcoming in the Journal of Financial Intermediation.

Shenoy’s research interests include corporate finance, product and labor market interactions and banking competition. In 2012, Tulane honored him with the Outstanding Researcher Award.

His professional experience also includes four years as a senior process engineer at a refinery and petrochemical company in India. Shenoy earned his Ph.D. from Georgia State University in 2009, his MBA in finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2003 and his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Mangalore University in India in 1997.

 

Rogerio Victer

Rogerio Victer joins UConn as an assistant professor-in-residence in management at UConn’s Stamford campus. He will teach the capstone course for both the undergraduate and graduate management programs. He also teaches courses in international growth and incentive systems.

His scholarship is primarily centered on the explanation of sources of performance differentiation based on the synthesis of distinct theories of competitive advantage. Victer is specialized in industries in which human capital is relevant for value creation and productivity. He is particularly interested in the design and development of organizational capabilities relevant to the improvement of corporate outcomes.

He earned a DBA degree in strategy and policy from Boston University and an MBA from Boston College. His professional experiences include expat assignments for large, multinational corporations, including as the human resources director at Dell Latin America Corp. His research accomplishments are many, including winning the Best Paper Award at the Global Innovation and Knowledge Academy’s 2012 Conference. He has published in various journals, including the Journal of International Business Studies. He serves on the editorial board of Management Decision and he is also a reviewer at the Strategic Management Journal.

 

Lingling Wang (Nathan Oldham/UConn School of Business)

Lingling Wang, assistant professor in finance, joins UConn with seven years of experience at Tulane University. At Tulane, she won multiple teaching awards, including the highly competitive Freeman Student Government Teaching Excellence Award in 2016 and the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2015.

Her research interests are in international finance and corporate governance. Her work has been published in leading journals, including the Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Review of Finance.

Prior to pursuing an academic career, she worked as a customer relations manager and senior application specialist in the new business development department at Sony Latin American Inc. She earned her Ph.D. in finance in 2009 from Georgia State University, an MBA from University of Miami in 2001 and bachelor of science in economics from Southwest Jiaotong University in China.
 

In addition, Anna Radziwillowicz has accepted a position as instructor-in-residence in OPIM at the Hartford campus. Radziwillowicz was formerly the program manager for OPIM.
