Health Disparities in Latino Families

Cristina WilsonDr. Cristina Wilson, associate professor of social work, focuses her research on health disparities in Latino families, particularly modifiable factors associated with substance use and parenting in Latino populations. She is especially interested in resiliency in the Latino family and in understanding the strengths of the family, culture, and parenting practices among Latinos. Her most recent work focuses on the Latino father in parenting. She is currently conducting an evaluation of a fathering intervention program known as Father Works, designed to prevent teen pregnancy by working with young Latino and African American males. Dr. Wilson also collaborates with community agencies in the evaluation of substance abuse prevention programs for adolescents in very dense Latino neighborhoods.
