Tell us a little bit about your experience here in Storrs. For starters, why did you choose UConn? 

I chose UConn because it looked like a good academic place to study and a fun place to live for a year; I wasn’t wrong about either!

What did you gain from the experience?

During this year at UConn I learned so much and had so many fun experiences. The immersion in American culture provided a new perspective on pretty much everything. I met so many new people that I wouldn’t have otherwise and really got the opportunity to put the exchange in exchange student.

What unique Experiential Global Learning opportunities did you encounter during your time?

I got to try so many new things from food to sports. I can’t detail everything because it would be way to much but I tried at least one brand new thing per week. Visiting Connecticut and New England in general was incredible. Visiting new places pretty much every weekend made the entire year feel like a vacation (But nonetheless, I didn’t put studying aside!)

How has Experiential Global Learning helped you to understand and appreciate your program's field of study?

Seeing a different way of teaching definitely proved itself to be a enriching academic experience. The classes that I took were mostly small groups and that wasn't something I was used to at all (it turned out to be a big plus in the end.) As an English major, every teacher was patient with my non-perfect English and really helped me to improve it.

Are there any tip(s) you'd give for future students participating in a program or those who are just starting to think about an experience?

I would say just go for it. It’s really a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And of course, once you’re there, don’t be afraid to try new things. Keeping a bucket list of everything you want to do helps in making sure you’re not going to have any regrets once going back home.
