The UConn field hockey team won the 1981 NCAA Championship, the first-ever sponsored for a woman’s sport. The championship game was played at Memorial Stadium in Storrs, which is now the site of the women’s basketball practice floor at the Werth Family Basketball Champions Center.
UConn is holding a celebration this weekend of the 50th anniversary of Title IX the enduring legacy of UConn women’s athletics since its varsity inception in 1974.
As part of that celebration, meet Carolan Norris ’83 (ED), a student-athlete from that 1981 field hockey team, and two current ones from women’s basketball, Aaliyah Edwards and Azzi Fudd, as they compare and contrast their experiences right on “Hallowed Ground.”
