The recent annual Health, Safety and Environment Fair offered something for everyone; from information about personal health and safety to environmental tips to the availability of videotaping a 50th anniversary greeting.
This year’s theme focused on 50, which coincides with yearlong celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the UConn Health Center. “The fair is a great way to showcase the many services available through the Health Center and also of area organizations,” says fair co-chairperson Pam Miles.
This year, the fair attracted a record number of participants and attendees. Fair participants included the Hollfelder Center, the Colon Cancer Program, the Diabetes Education Program, Know Better Place, University Dentists, Department of Dermatology, Employee Health Service, Research Safety, Calhoun Cardiology Center, Rehabilitation Services, Nursing Department, the Auxiliary, and many more. In addition, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings were offered as well as information about smoking cessation, lifestyle modification, health resources, recycling, energy and patient safety.
50th Anniversary Greetings
Employees, nurses, physicians, faculty members and students from all areas of UConn Health Center offer their best 50th Anniversary wishes.
In addition, more than 75 individuals weighed in at the fair to kick-off the Health Center’s “Biggest Loser Challenge.” Wii Zumba, a fast-paced dance exercise, was available to start them off on their weight loss challenge. And to exercise the mind, teams participated in a “Jeopardy Game.” Based on the popular quiz show, teams challenged each other and tested their safety knowledge. Hosted by the Health Center’s own Steven Jacobs, Research Safety, the teams responded to categories focused on safety ranging from very easy to extremely difficult.
The fair was also attended by Miss Connecticut 2010, Brittany Decker, who signed autographs, posed for photos and helped with the hourly drawings.
