The UConn Heath Center was a leading sponsor of Greater Hartford’s Go Red For Women luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 14. The American Heart Association event took place at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

The luncheon featured a “Heart to Heart Education Session” led by Health Center experts.
Physician assistant Bradley Biskup, who directs the Calhoun Cardiology’s Lifestyle Modification Clinic, gave a presentation concerning risk factors for heart disease, what your cholesterol and blood pressure numbers should be, and how you can reach them.

Following that session, Dr. Stephen Lahey, chief of cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Anjanette Ferris, co-director of the Women’s Heart Health Program, and Dr. Anita Kelsey, UConn School of Medicine Cardiology Fellowship Program, led a discussion covering heart disease prevention and overall heart health.

UConn medical students also took part in the event by providing blood pressure screenings throughout the afternoon. Health Center and Sodexo executive chef Richard Duclos and registered dietitian Amy DiCioccio performed a cooking demonstration of a heart healthy menu.
