Bliss Wins Abstract Competition
Surgical resident Lindsay Bliss has won the American College of Surgeon’s NSQIP Resident Abstract Competition and will be presenting it at the general session in New York City in July. There were over 100 abstracts submitted from top residency programs across the country.
Woods Receives Young Investigator Award
Jared Woods, an MD/PhD candidate working on his thesis in the laboratory of Blanka Rogina, was selected to receive a Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Award from the Academy of Clinical Physicians and Scientists. He will present his paper entitled “Effects of rpd3 Mutation on Mitochondrial Function and Metabolism in Drosophila,” at the annual meeting of the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists to be held in San Francisco, May 29 – 31.
Arciero Wins Best Video
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons presented Dr. Robert Arciero an award for the best video describing a stabilization technique that he performs for young athletes with dislocating shoulders who have an extensive injury. The award was based on high production values, technical quality, educational merit, and clinical relevance.
Nanda Presents Prestigious Lecture
Dr. Ravindra Nanda, chair of the Division of Orthodontics, was asked to present the prestigious Moyers Lecture at the University of Michigan Moyers Symposium. Only one speaker is invited to give this coveted lecture each year.
Lalla Earns Leadership Award
The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) has named Dr. Rajesh Lalla, associate professor at the School of Dental Medicine, the first ADEA/AADR/Colgate-Palmolive Co./Dr. Dominick P. DePaola Scholar in the ADEA Leadership Institute. The award provides the opportunity for an academic dental institution faculty member, who has shown potential for leadership, to participate in the ADEA Leadership Institute.
Wolf and Andemariam Honored for Innovation
Drs. Jennifer Moriatis Wolf, orthopaedic surgeon, and Biree Andemariam, hematologist, were among 59 women from across Connecticut honored for their innovation and leadership during the tenth annual Women of Innovation awards dinner held last month. The Connecticut Technology Council held the awards program to recognize women in the workforce who are innovators, role models and leaders in the fields of technology, science and engineering.
