Arvia Walker, ’13 MSW will be honored by the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF) at their One Woman Makes a Difference awards dinner. The annual event celebrates women who make a difference in the lives of women and girls in Connecticut.

Arvia received her Master’s in Social Work with a concentration in Community Organizing in 2013.  She is the Public Policy and Strategic Engagement Specialist at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England where she organizes around issues that intersect with race and reproductive health and rights. She believes in the power of Black women and girls and is dedicated to building political power to shift the conditions of black and brown communities across the country.

Arvia is also an artist and storyteller. In 2016, she founded Zora: The Coming of the Sun; a company that focuses on storytelling as a way to promote activism and healing.

CWEALF’s mission is to advocate for and empower women and girls in Connecticut, especially those who are underserved or marginalized.
