X-Lot to Become Privately Operated as of August

Alternative parking is available in C-Lot, with extra bus service, and elsewhere on campus.

The longstanding lease between the University of Connecticut and the owners of X-Lot on the Storrs campus will expire in August, after UConn and the company could not agree on terms of an extension. The lot will no longer be available as a University parking lot after this summer, though parking passes for the lot can still be purchased through the private owners at rates that are higher than UConn’s.

Parking Services has identified other lots on campus for commuters who previously parked in X-Lot.

“Plenty of parking is available elsewhere on campus for anyone who has been parking in X-Lot,” says Martha Funderburk, parking services manager. “We will also be stepping up shuttle bus services for nearby C-Lot to accommodate any increase in demand created by additional commuters parking there.”

Other options include:

  • F-Lot. A student lot for both residents and commuters, located on North Eagleville Road. F-Lot also offers parking for employees with Area 2 and 3 parking permits.
  • C-Lot. This lot is available to anyone who has a paid University parking permit, including paid student permits. It is located on North Hillside Road behind the tennis courts. There are 550 spaces in C-Lot, which has long been underutilized. Beginning with the fall semester, shuttle bus service will be expanded to include more buses stopping more often at C-Lot.
  • North Hillside Road. There is paid permit parking beyond the bus stop, along North Hillside Road, for students as well as employees with Area 2 parking permits.
  • W-Lot. This is a student lot for both residents and commuters, located behind the Towers dorms. It is also underutilized, so space is available.
  • B-Lot and T-Lot. Also, B-Lot and the lower portion of T-Lot were both changed from resident lots to commuter lots for this fall, to help compensate for the loss of X-Lot parking.

Bus service is available from F, C, and W-Lots. This information was also mailed to students as part of the parking renewal packages earlier this month.
