The Floriculture Greenhouse provides a nurturing environment for Calliandra haematocephala – more commonly known as the Red Powder Puff. A fast-growing shrub that is native to Bolivia, the Red Powder Puff flowers are attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds but only appear from November through April. Powder Puffs don't take well to freezing temperatures, so in cold New England climes they must be grown inside during the winter. Photo by Sean Flynn
