Website Devoted to Financial Review Project Now Live

Members of the UConn community are encouraged to share cost-saving ideas.

As part of an internal financial review that is underway, the University has created a new website about the project that allows members of the UConn community to submit their own ideas to identify cost-savings and opportunities to increase revenue.

A steering committee chaired by Provost Peter Nicholls is overseeing the review, which is being conducted by McKinsey & Co., a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm. The Board of Trustees approved the hiring of McKinsey in late 2010 after a competitive bid process, and the consultants began their work earlier this year.

The review pertains to the Storrs and regional campuses only.

It is focusing on eight specific areas at UConn:

  • Information Technology
  • Facilities Operations
  • Public Safety
  • Procurement
  • Financial Operations and Administration
  • Human Resources
  • Student Affairs
  • Athletics

Anyone at UConn can submit ideas through a form that is available on the website. Also, beginning March 29, the McKinsey team will hold office hours on Tuesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Their office is located in Hawley Armory building, second floor, room 205.
