Compared to other local colleges, UConn is a fairly large institution. While the size may intimidate some people, it is actually one of the reasons why I chose to attend this university. With great size comes great opportunity, diversity, and room to grow. Senior Mike Carson strongly believes that the key to a memorable college experience is to get involved. He is President of the Student Union Board of Governors (SUBOG), which is responsible for organizing the main events on campus, such as the spring concert, and maintaining policies within the student union. Furthermore, Mike is an official and supervisor for UConn’s Intramural Sport program. Through the program, he became certified to referee at middle and high schools throughout eastern Connecticut. Mike is also a founding brother of FIJI, a brand new social fraternity on campus. He sees the organization as an outlet to share his leadership experiences and encourage younger students to get involved.

Mike highly values the opportunities UConn has given him through the organizations he is a part of. Through SUBOG, he has met several celebrities such as Billy Joel, Nick Cannon, and Jodie Sweetin, and in a few weeks will meet one of his favorite actors, Adrian Grenier. Through his work with intramurals, Mike was able to officiate at a college club basketball tournament in Boston. His management positions have served him well, as the actuarial science major has already landed a full-time job with Towers Watson for after graduation. He interned there last summer, and is looking forward to utilizing his leadership abilities and seizing any potential great experiences that lay ahead. Mike is grateful for what UConn has given him, and says he will always be a supporter and contributor to the UConn community.
