The Office of the Dean is pleased to welcome four new professional staff members.
Christopher P. Joliat joins the School as Director of Development. He previously was employed for 11 years as a fundraising professional with the Legion of Christ, an international Catholic not-for-profit organization. He began as a Director of Major Gifts and worked his way up to Vice President of Development responsible for the implementation of fundraising strategies for a team that spanned North America. Earlier in his career, Chris worked with several financial services companies selling investment management, retirement, and trust and estate planning services. He holds a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts and has pursued post graduate studies at the University of Hartford and RPI.
Michael McCarthy joins us in the capacity of Assistant Director of Development. Mike joined the University of Connecticut 18 months ago as program director of Leadership Gifts with the UConn Foundation. Earlier in his career, Mike was employed in the financial services sector, where he worked for Delta Funding Corp., Waltham, MA; First American Mortgage Trust, Brookline, MA; and Fidelity Investments. Mike earned his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Colby-Sawyer College in 2001. He will join the School of Engineering on June 30.
Ed Swindelles joined the Engineering Computing Services unit in March as a Systems Administrator. Ed’s duties include managing the technical infrastructure of systems such as e-mail and supporting the School of Engineering community in the use of technology. Prior to moving to Connecticut, he was a Systems Manager at Brown University (’07-’08) in Providence, RI. Earlier in his career, he was a Network Administrator for Norton Public Schools (’05-’07) in Norton, MA. He received his Sc.B, magna cum laude, in Computer Science at Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, MA (’05). Ed lives in Vernon, CT with his wife and their border collie.
Kerrie Alberts joined the School of Engineering in May as Grants Development Officer. Kerrie has been a Grants & Contracts Specialist II in the University’s Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP) since March 2004. Earlier in her career, Kerrie was a Senior Research Analyst with the UConn Foundation. Kerrie will assist faculty in the preparation of interdisciplinary research programs; develop and write background and foundational material required for various proposal submissions; assist with the preparation of proposal budgets; and develop processes to streamline proposal submissions. She will work closely with Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Education Mehdi Anwar and Writer/Editor Nan Cooper. Kerrie earned her B.A. in English at Ohio Northern University, Ada (’96).
