The School of Engineering will hold its annual awards ceremony and reception on Tuesday, April 28 at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts. On that evening, we will celebrate our outstanding scholarship recipients in a special event for students and their families, scholarship donors and industry friends.

During the evening, more than 200 undergraduate engineering students will be recognized for academic excellence, and scholarships donors will be recognized for their contributions. Last year, the School of Engineering awarded more than $530,000 in merit scholarships to over 235 undergraduate engineering students.

A reception will precede the awards ceremony from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. The popular a capella group “Conn-Men” will provide musical entertainment throughout the reception; the Conn-Men were the winners of the 2007 NCHSA New England Regional A Cappella Competition. The awards ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m.

The School of Engineering is actively seeking scholarship donations, according to Dean of Engineering Mun Y. Choi, to help academically gifted students stay at UConn. “The economic turmoil of the past year has affected many families, and we are eager to ensure that a UConn engineering degree remains affordable,” he said.

The University of Connecticut recently announced a Presidential Challenge campaign, which aims to raise $100 million in private funding for scholarships and graduate fellowships. The School will combine non-endowment engineering scholarship donations into a larger pool that, once it attains a critical mass of $10,000, will be matched 50 cents on the dollar from existing University scholarship funds.
