During a meeting of UConn’s Board of Trustees on Nov. 9, chairman of the Board Larry McHugh offered an update on the search for the University’s next president. McHugh said that the University has received more than 100 applications and nominations for the position to date. He noted that the applicants and nominees can generally be divided into three categories: current presidents and provosts of top research universities; presidents and deans of smaller institutions; and those who are not currently working in the academic world.
“The most important things we’re going to be looking for are leadership, the ability to relate to our stakeholders, and a strong academic background,” said McHugh. “We’re going to select a president who can maintain the excellence that UConn has achieved and will keep us on that path going forward.”
The committee will meet next on Nov. 15 and will begin reviewing the applications. McHugh said the search committee is working well with Witt Kieffer, the search firm hired to aid in the process, and he expects interviews will begin in December.
