This year marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of legislation that led to the founding of the UConn Health Center. “Thanks to the wisdom and hard work of many men and women, over many years, the UConn Health Center was transformed from a bold proposal in 1961 into a vibrant and integrated academic medical center in 2011,” said Dr. Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D.
A new website dedicated solely to the 50th anniversary has been launched, http://celebrate50.uchc.edu. It describes the Health Center’s origins, its accomplishments and the countless ways it enhances the quality of life in Connecticut.
The site includes a gallery of archived photos, information about upcoming anniversary-related events, and Health Center at 50 Fast Facts. Throughout the year, more information will be added to the site, including video messages from some UConn Health Center “historians.”
