Nathan D. Fuerst has been appointed as the director of undergraduate admissions at the University of Connecticut.

“We were fortunate to attract a talented young director such as Nathan,” said Lee Melvin, vice president for enrollment planning and management, who announced the appointment. “I believe he has the background and experience to successfully meet the demands of UConn’s enrollment goals.

“Nathan is well suited to continue the mission of attracting better prepared students to UConn,” added Melvin. “He has valuable experience with growing enrollment in international markets, and has a proven track record for strengthening the diversity and quality of the incoming classes of students.”

Fuerst was selected after a nationwide search by a committee chaired by Yuhang Rong, assistant dean of the Neag School of Education.

Fuerst joins UConn from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was the associate director of admissions. At Nebraska, Fuerst’s efforts led to increases in international enrollment, as well as increases in the diversity and merit of the freshmen class. He was also instrumental in the implementation of the new student information system, as well as imaging systems at Nebraska.

He spent 10 years in the Nebraska admissions office in various roles. His experience includes management of international recruitment, national recruitment programs, campus visits, and open house programs; an admissions budget of $4.5 million; and systems, reporting, and data analysis. He also directed the admissions decisions on 17,000+ applications per year.

He has been recognized nationally as an up-and-coming leader in admissions due to his reputation for excellence using data-driven management techniques.

Fuerst earned his BA. in communication studies from the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and his MBA from the University of Nebraska College of Business Administration.

“I am thrilled to be joining an institution with such a clear commitment to diversity and a strong track record of student success,” said Fuerst. “I look forward to engaging with the UConn community to build upon its reputation as one of the finest public universities in the nation.”
