‘Heart Of A Champion’ Honors Jim Calhoun

A celebration of the Hall of Fame coach included the renaming of Stadium Road as Jim Calhoun Way.

“Heart Of A Champion: A Tribute To Jim Calhoun” was held on Sunday night at Gampel Pavilion to salute and honor the 26-year career of UConn’s Hall of Fame men’s basketball coach. The evening concluded with the renaming of Stadium Road as “Jim Calhoun Way.” Calhoun becomes just the fourth person in the history of the University to have a road named for him on campus.

The event featured a number of Calhoun’s former players paying tribute to him including Ray Allen, Richard Hamilton, Kevin Freeman, Steve Pikiell, Rudy Gay, A.J. Price, Donny Marshall, Jake Voskuhl, Kemba Walker, and Ben Gordon. In addition, video greetings were shown from prominent coaches from around the county and Jim Nantz of CBS Sports.
