Bulldozers, backhoes, and earth movers are transforming the UConn Health campus as new buildings and parking garages are being constructed. But the piece of construction equipment that stands out across the skyline is the 250 ft. high tower crane that is being used to build the new hospital tower.

While the crane is hard to miss, the man operating it is nearly hidden from view within a tiny compartment on top. Wayne Miller, who has been working on cranes since he was 15, is not fazed by the dizzying heights and long hours in a small, confined space. In fact, Miller says he loves his job and can’t imagine doing anything else.
