Shakes are all the craze but do they really offer the nutritional benefit some claim and are they worth the effort? If so, which ones are right for you?

During an interview on NBC Connecticut, UConn Health registered dietitian Linda York blends up some examples of the most common types of shakes:

1)    Meal replacement shake (protein, calorie, carb, fat with vitamins and minerals);

2)    Veggie/fruit replacement shake to ensure we get those 5 fruits and veggies per day;

3)    Cleanse shake for weight loss and detoxifying;

4)    High protein, low carb for body building, fitness optimization.

York leads several Healthy Nutrition Programs at UConn Health including “Ready to Lose” – a weight loss program and “Heart Health” – nutrition tips aimed at lowering blood pressure, reducing cholesterol and maintaining a healthy weight. Call 800-535-6232 or 860-679-7692 if you want to learn more.
