Gov. Malloy Proclaims Husky Weekend

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has declared the upcoming weekend Husky Weekend, and invites fans to wear blue-and-white.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy has announced that he is proclaiming Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6 as “Husky Weekend” in the State of Connecticut in honor of both the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams playing in the NCAA Final Four tournament.

“UConn again is the only school in the nation to have both our men’s and women’s basketball teams reach the NCAA Final Four, and for that we are incredibly proud,” Governor Malloy said.  “This weekend, I urge Connecticut residents to put on your blue and white and show the nation how excited we are for our hometown teams.”

The Governor will extend “Husky Weekend” through Tuesday if either team – and hopefully both – make it to the championship.

“We are so proud of our UConn Huskies.  All of Connecticut is rooting them on,” Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said.  “The Governor and I congratulate the players and coaches on advancing to the Final Four – these are tremendous players, and great representatives of Connecticut.”

“The success of our student athletes is a credit not only to their hard work, but also to the dedication of their coaches and the state’s unwavering support of its flagship university,” UConn President Susan Herbst said.  “These teams’ efforts help raise UConn’s profile, and that draws more people to learn about our academic excellence.  I encourage everyone to honor these incredible ambassadors by wearing our Husky gear and showing our UConn pride.”

The UConn men play the Florida Gators on Saturday evening, and the UConn women play the Stanford Cardinal on Sunday evening.
