On Sunday, March 23, Stamford Girl Scouts held its annual Family Partnership Fundraiser, and back by popular demand, we hosted our Powder Puff Derby at the Italian Center.  Friends and families cheered the Girl Scouts as they entered home-made pine derby cars in competitions of speed and design.  New this year – a shiny new aluminum track and a special race category for parents were added!!

In addition to the car racing, Stamford Girl Scouts had car related activities to complete such as identifying road signs or car indicator lights.  The Connecticut Transportation Institute loaned their Safety Town Kit, allowing younger girl scouts and family members to practice, hands on, pedestrian safety skills such as crossing at a crosswalk instead of between cars, looking ‘left-right-left’ before crossing, and walking against traffic if there are no sidewalks.  In addition, the CTI donated bicycle helmets which were raffled off to younger participants.

Stamford Girl Scouts had over 100 cars racing, from scouts ranging from kindergarten to high school and over 300 spectators, making this one of the most attended events for Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
