Dr. Anson Ma, assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the Institute of Materials Science, spoke to WTNH recently about his and his students’ work on creating an artificial kidney using 3D printing and their collaboration with the ACT Group in Cromwell.
Dr. Ma told WTNH that the clinical trials on these kinds of artificial kidneys could be as close as five to 10 years away.
“The long term goal is [incorporating] stem cells from the patient, and we can create fully compatible organs,” he said.
