Dr. Robert Fuller has been appointed chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at UConn Health. Fuller, a professor of traumatology and emergency medicine, has been serving as interim chair since May of last year.

Along with his many responsibilities at UConn Health, Fuller has distinguished himself as a volunteer with the International Medical Corps, a humanitarian organization that deploys doctors to disaster-ravaged areas to provide health care relief. He was named a “Community Hero of Connecticut” by the American Red Cross Connecticut Region, and a “Healthcare Hero” by the Connecticut Hospital Association for his relief work in Haiti following the January 2010 earthquake.

Fuller received his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and was named a Stritch School of Medicine Alumnus of the Year in 2012.

“I am thankful to the diligent effort by Dr. Brian Shames who chaired the search committee as well as to the committee members Drs. John Birk, Paul Kaloudis, Shawn London, Christopher Pickett, Kevin Shea and administrative program coordinator Shelly Lombardo,” says UConn School of Medicine Dean Dr. Bruce Liang. “And please join me in wishing Dr. Fuller success in his new role.”
