Stroke Survivor Strums Guitar Again

When a stroke limited Bruce Cleinman’s use of his left arm and hand, one of his biggest concerns was he wouldn’t be able to play guitar anymore. But he followed the recovery plan of the UConn Health Stroke Program, customized for him. In a matter of weeks he was strumming his guitar again.

When a stroke limited Bruce Cleinman’s use of his left arm and hand, one of his biggest concerns was he wouldn’t be able to play guitar anymore. “It would be like losing a good friend,” he said. But he followed the recovery plan Dr. Sanjay Mittal, medical director of the UConn Health Stroke Program, customized for him. In a matter of weeks he was regaining function of his left hand—to the point where he had a surprise for the following month’s Stroke Survivor Group at UConn Health.
