For the third consecutive year, UConn John Dempsey Hospital has been awarded the highest A-rating in patient safety by The Leapfrog Group.
Receiving the top A-ranking in patient safety in 2015, 2016, and again in 2017 recognizes UConn John Dempsey’s continued excellence in meeting the highest U.S. safety standards and keeping patients safe from medical errors, infections, and other harms.
Of the more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals, UConn John Dempsey is amongst 832 hospitals earning an A in patient safety this year. The national nonprofit health care ratings organization, The Leapfrog Group, assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals nationwide based on their performance. To assign grades, Leapfrog uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data.
“It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment…showing the country what it means to put patient safety first.”
For the second year in a row, UConn John Dempsey will be honored by the Northeast Business Group on Health (NEBGH) with the Leapfrog Patient Safety & Quality Improvement Award for its substantial achievements in patient safety and high-quality care. The award will be presented on Nov. 29 at NEBGH’s 4th Annual Leapfrog Hospital Awards breakfast. NEBGH is an employer-led coalition of healthcare leaders focused on achieving the highest value in healthcare delivery and the consumer experience.
“I am so proud of the unwavering dedication of our doctors, surgeons, nurses, and staff to patient safety and excellent care at UConn John Dempsey Hospital,” said Dr. Andy Agwunobi, CEO of UConn Health and UConn John Dempsey Hospital. “Thank you to all the employees for their incredible hard work each and every day and always putting our patients and their safety first.”
