UConn School of Law has moved up 15 points, from 65th to 50th place, over the past two years in the U.S. News & World Report list of Best Law Schools. The newly released rankings for 2019 show a rise of four points, following an 11-point increase in the 2018 rank.

Dean Timothy Fisher said the ranking reflect improvements in many areas, including the qualifications of incoming students and the employment outcomes of recent graduates. He cautioned, however, that it is an incomplete measure of quality that disregards such critical factors as the exemplary quality of teaching at UConn Law. And he pointed out that rankings are relative, and can drop due to changes at other schools notwithstanding our own sustained excellence.

“We celebrate this second consecutive year of rise in our ranking to the extent that it reflects genuine progress in our educational program,” he said. “We will continue to build our strengths in these and the other areas where our mission aligns with the U.S. News scoring. At the same time we will continue to dedicate resources to the important areas of our program that U.S. News does not credit.”

Fisher credited the generosity of alumni, whose gifts and commitments have increased substantially in the past few years, for supporting the law school’s progress.

The law school was also recently ranked among the best schools for practical training by PreLaw magazine and was also rated among the top law schools for its buildings and for its environmental law program.
