Doctoral student Grace Felten, was recently selected as a recipient of UConn’s Human Rights Institute (HRI) Research Grant Award for the 2018-19 academic year.

HRI’s competitive graduate student research grants support and promote projects on human rights related issues for graduate students in all disciplines at UConn.  The grant competition prioritizes a range of primary research deemed as having a likelihood of contributing to ongoing scholarly and policy debates in the field of human rights. Felten was selected for the award for her (dissertation) research in Greece that examines how the health/reproductive health of refugee women and girls has been impacted during their displacement.

Academic mentor, Kathryn Libal PhD, said that the award will provide needed support for Grace’s field research in Greece, building upon interviews with humanitarian aid workers and volunteers working with refugees conducted during Summer 2018.  “The project will be one of the few contributions to refugee studies and international social work on the experiences of service providers, volunteers, and refugee women in Greece,” she noted.
