Dr. Marja Hurley appointed to the Special Programs Committee of The Endocrine Society (UConn Health/Janine Gelineau).

The American Society of Bone and Mineral Research has elected Dr. Marja M. Hurley as a member of its 2019-2020 Officer and Councilor positions. Hurley, a professor of medicine and orthopedics and associate dean of the Health Career Opportunity Programs at UConn School of Medicine and UConn School of Dental Medicine, will serve a three-year term as a member of the ASBMR’s Council.

The Research Society of Alcoholism has awarded Dr. Victor Hesselbrock, professor and vice chair of the Department of Psychiatry at UConn School of Medicine, its 2019 RSA Seixas Award for Service. Hesselbrock, who also serves as scientific director of UConn’s Alcohol Research Center, was selected for the honor by the RSA Board of Directors following nominations from the society’s membership. Hesselbrock was honored in June at the 42nd Annual RSA Scientific Meeting in Minneapolis.

At the opening award ceremonies of the National Medical Association’s (NMA) annual convention and scientific assembly on July 27 in Hawaii, the Cato T. Laurencin Lifetime Research Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Griffin Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The award recognizes Rodgers long-lasting contributions benefiting African Americans and in reducing heath disparities through research.  Dr. Cato T. Laurencin serves UConn as University Professor and the Albert and Wilda Van Dusen Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UConn Health.
